Deadline Approaches for Floridians Who Have Not Filed Ocwen Mortgage Settlement Claims

The deadline is Sept. 15. The settlement provides principal reduction to underwater homeowners and payment to borrowers whose foreclosed homes were sold between 2009 and 2013.

Palm Coast, FL – August 29, 2014 – The Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) reminds Floridians that the deadline to file a claim under the Ocwen Mortgage Settlement is September 15, 2014. “As of August 15, 2014, Ocwen has received 33 percent of claim forms from eligible borrowers in Florida, and we are reminding eligible citizens to file their claims before the September 15 deadline,” said Commissioner Drew Breakspear.

In December 2013, Ocwen Financial Corporation and its subsidiary, Ocwen Loan Servicing, agreed to the $2.1 billion joint state-federal settlement to resolve allegations of mortgage servicing misconduct resulting in premature and unauthorized foreclosures, violations of homeowners’ rights and protections, and the use of false and deceptive documents and affidavits. In addition to the $125 million payment fund, the settlement also provides for $2 billion in the form of first lien principal relief with an estimated $342 million being provided to Florida homeowners.
