PALM COAST, FL – May 24, 2019 – The U.S. Census Bureau yesterday announced the latest population estimates for incorporated entities (towns and cities). That release along with last month’s release which covered states, counties, and metro areas provide our first complete look at the area’s population in 12 months.
Here is a summary of last month’s release:
Flagler County grew 1.9%, adding 2,130 new residents, down slightly from the 2.4% growth and 2,586 new residents the previous year and 2.8% growth and 2,931 new residents between July 1, 2015 and July 1, 2016.
By comparison, between July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018:
Thursday’s release includes population estimates as of July 1, 2018, for incorporated entities. Here are some salient numbers:
Total Number of Housing Units:
Going forward, our area is expected to continue to outperform the rest of the state as well as the U.S. overall. We can no longer rely on vacant/distressed housing to buffer the continuing demand for increased housing. Increased demand can be met only with new construction. Demand will come from two sources:
